Research Programs
Research underpins and drives sound decisions on-farm and in catchments. Dairy Australia conducts NRM research on behalf of the industry to ensure Australia's dairy industry stays competitive and sustainable.
The future viability of Australia's dairy industry will depend on the ability of its farming systems to adapt to predicted changes in temperature, rainfall and water availability. In line with the Australian Dairy Industry Council strategy, Dairy Australia has made water, nutrients, climate and greenhouse gas emissions priority areas for NRM action over the next 3-5 years.
In 2008, Situation and Outlook reported climate change and water as two of the three most significant challenges for 2009. Rigorous R&D will continue to provide the appropriate base for making good natural resource management decisions for dairy production.
This NRM R&D program aims to benefit the industry economically, socially and environmentally by ensuring:
- Farmers and industry managers are equipped with the appropriate knowledge, help and tools to make sound decisions in relation to climate risk, climate change adaptation, greenhouse gas abatement and water use.
- The industry has information that leads to efficient water use and lower greenhouse gas emissions
- Our dairy systems contribute to sustainable communities.
