Dairy in the region

• Around 475 Tasmanian dairy farmers produce over 640 million litres of milk annually.
• The average Tasmanian farm milks around 360 cows, producing 2.11 million litres annually.
• There are 8 dairy factories in the region including milk processing, dairy product manufacturing and milk collection plants.
• Major companies operating in the region include Fonterra Milk Australia, Cadbury Schweppes and National Foods.
• The estimated value of farm milk production in 2007/08 from the region was $310m.
• Exports from Tasmania are valued at over $200 million.
