Dairying Better N Better for TomorrowDairying Better’n’Better for Tomorrow (DBnB) is an industry developed and led program that uses an innovative approach to improve and support the on-farm adoption of better natural resource management practices. Over 30% of Queensland dairy farmers have participated in DBnB to date and more programs are planned. The program involves small local groups of producers working together and has been developed to make the direct connection between awareness, knowledge, decisions, actions and outcomes. Key aspects of the program include benchmarking of on-farm practices through the DairySAT, identification of priority issues and linking these to catchment and regional priorities, recognition of appropriate management practices and development and implementation of an on-farm action plan to address priority issues. The DBnB group facilitator supports each farmer member of the DBnB group on an individual basis to complete the DairySAT. Through the completion of the DairySAT, farm priorities are identified, prioritised and recorded. This information is collected by the group facilitator, and provides valuable information for monitoring and evaluation of the progress of the group and the industry’s program along with providing industry with a snapshot of current industry Natural Resource Management practices. Once farmers have completed Dairying Better’n’Better the next step is the continuous improvement process, DBnB On the Moo’ve. This supplementary component to the program was developed in 2007 to support group continuity, as well as more regular on-farm assessment and recording of improved practices and on going actions. A Project User’s Guide for Dairying Better’n’Better is available. For further information contact the QLD Dairying for Tomorrow Coordinator: Ruth McInnes- email ruth@dairypage.com.au
